Hello brave parents and caregivers,
Welcome to MommyPsych! My name is Jenni Farrow, M.D. and I am a mother and child and adolescent psychiatrist. I’ve been practicing child and adolescent psychiatry for 16 years, have co-authored book chapters on the topics of neuroprogression, adolescent bipolar disorder, and pediatric psychopharmacology, and have co-authored multiple publications on topics ranging from adolescent bipolar disorder to pediatric anxiety. In addition, I am honored to have been selected as a Top Doctor in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by Cincinnati Magazine in 2020 and 2021.
With my training, parenting should be a walk in the park, right? Haha! I am at times defeated, always exhausted, and truly inspired by my daughter who has taught me more than I care to admit about parenting. I honestly cringe when I think back to some of the pre-mother parenting recommendations I have made to patients’ families. Who knew that kids don’t follow the textbook?
Like all parents, I grapple with parenting doubt daily and often feel like I’m flying by seat of my pants. By exploring parenting challenges through the lens of my knowledge of pediatric mental health conditions, my hope is to empower you as parents and ultimately improve your relationship with your child.
I’ll address general topics ranging from child development, emotion dysregulation, and therapeutic parent-child interaction techniques to specific topics such as pediatric ADHD, mood disorders, eating disorders, and anxiety. Each week, I’ll explore a topic and draw on personal anecdotes where I can.
So fellow parents and caregivers, I invite you to join me as I fumble through this unrelenting parenting journey. Let’s create a space to be open about the challenges of parenting and work together to nurture the development of emotionally healthy kids.
